Good morning my loyal Painkillers, retro gamers, and newbies to the site. Welcome to another installment of Grab A Buddy Monday. Today, I have a special treat for you all, since for today’s game, we are heading into Captain Pain’s arcade room! (Man, I wish I had that for real!). It’s been a while since I done an arcade game, so it seems like a good time to do one. So with that being said, if you and three of your buddies, have a suit, its time to suit up, and play Captain America and the Avengers.
Hitting arcades back in 1991 developed and released by Data East, this game allowed you to play as Captain America, Iron Man, Hawkeye, and Vision. In this side scrolling beat em up, you defeat enemies in hand to hand combat, using your character’s unique abilities, and throwing weapons. Those are fun, cause almost everything is a throwing weapon. Trash cans, park benches, even soda machines, if you see it on screen, go by it and see if you can pick it up.
The goal of the game is to get to the end of each level, and beat the villain/end boss. They include villains such as Klaw, Whirlwind, The Juggernaut, the Red Skull as the main boss, and many other villains. There are also many other Avengers in the game as well. Wasp, Quicksilver, and Namor are special collectible power ups, that temporary aid the players in battle.
This game is very good. Like most arcade games during that time, this game was a quarter eater! It wasn’t as bad as other games during that time period, but you were definitely going to need a few bucks to actually get through this from start to finish. I know that it will be hard to go hit up your local arcade and play this, like I have as a child. Lucky for us we live in a world that have emulators, so have at it. If you are person that likes physical copies, the game was ported onto the Game Boy, NES Super NES, Game Gear, And the Sega Genesis/ Mega Drive, so have fun hunting a copy down. Until next time everyone!
Captain Pain approves this post!!!
