Fighting Is What We Do!
Updated: Feb 7, 2020
Good morning my loyal Painkillers, retro gamers, and newbies to the site! Welcome to another edition of Grab A Buddy Monday. I know that I have said this in the past, but it needs to be said again. I miss those classic beat ’em up games. I know that these days, that genre of games is pretty much dead, unless its a remake of an old game. Other than that, I will just have to play some old game. Its time to grab your buddy, hook up your PS1, and let’s play Fighting Force.
Originally pitched to Sega to be Streets Of Rage 4, this game was developed by Core Design, and published by Eidos. It hit the PS1 in 1997, and the N64 in 1999. In this game, you got to pick between four different characters, each with their own reason why they were fighting. The game uses basic controls, and many things that you would see in many other beat ’em up style games. With, this game instead of having a side scrolling environment, this game is set in a 3D environment.
This game had some mixed reviews, but I guess that many people like myself, enjoyed it, and it sold enough copies, to have a squeal made. Like many games, this one had things in it that I didn’t like, such as loosing health when performing a special move. I guess a reason why we don’t see beat ’em up games a lot these days, is because most were made for arcades, that are not really around these days, and also I its hard to capture that magic that those side scrollers had, and put it in 3D levels. That’s all for now, until next time everyone!
