Good morning one and all, and especially all of you in out there in the HBCL Universe. Welcome to Half Baked Conspiracy. For those of you that don't know, this is where we look at a cartoon conspiracy, and the HBCL staff try to decide if this theory is plausible or not. Today we will look at a Nickelodeon classic Hey Arnold! Are Arnold's grandparents really his grandparents, or are they actually his parents? Let's take a look at this theory.
The theory goes that Arnold's grandparents, Phil and Gertie are actually his parents. They conceived him at such a old age, that Arnold was born with a condition know as hydrocephalus. This condition is the reason why Arnold has an odd shaped head. Feeling ashamed, they made up the story of parents and them disappearing. Guess it help that Gertie is suffering from dementia or Alzheimer, so I guess she can't remember that she had Arnold. Let's see what the HBCL staff thinks.
Ugh, my heart... But no. Sad, strange even-- but true? Negative. Just doesn't make sense to me-- Time frames don't add up. The Captain delves more into this ..
This one was very hard for me to figure out. Since I have to choose, I think that this theory doesn't hold water. If the grandparents are or near the same age, it means that Gertie would have been in her late 60s-early 70s when she would of had Arnold. And by late 60s, I mean 68 or 69. I'm definitely not saying that a woman of her age couldn't have a child, but I thing at both of their ages it would be much harder for Phil and Gertie to keep up the lie due to their mental health. Also, there have been people living in that boarding house for years, and if they were there when Arnold was born, don't you think that they would have slipped and said something by now. Just something to think about.
