Magic And Swords

Updated: Feb 7, 2020

Good morning my loyal Painkillers, anime fans, and newbies to the site. Welcome to another edition of Anime Wednesday. Today I have a good one for you. So what kind of show do you get when you mix elements of old Japan, modern Japan, and you add some magic in the mix as well? You get this cool anime know as Tokyo Ravens.

During World War 2, Japan tried to use a very powerful magic known as Onmyodou. Unfortunately, the ritual went horribly wrong, sending Japan into chaos. The invent is know in Japan as the “Great Disaster”. In modern times, the show follows Harutora Tsuchimikado. He was born into a onmyodou, but he has no magic of his own. One day his childhood friend that he hasn’t seen in years, Natsume Tsuchimikado appears. She has returned to have Harutora keep the promise he made to her years ago. He told her that he would be her familiar.

This show is really entertaining and fun. This is one of few that does everything right. The story, character development, character interactions, and the animation style itself is great. I didn’t know much about this show going into it, but after watching it, I can clearly see why fans of this show have been craving for a second season. As of now, there is only one season, and if you want to watch this show for yourself, you can watch it on Hulu. That’s all for now, until next time everyone!
