One Hell Of A Counterattack!

Updated: Feb 7, 2020

Sieg Zeon!

Good morning my loyal Painkillers, and anime fans. Welcome to the latest edition of Saturday Morning Cinema. Ok, quick confession I have been on a Gundam kick lately. So just a heads up, you might be seeing some Gundam articles from me in the near fut…….like right now! Here is Mobie Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack!

For those that don’t know, this movie takes place in the Universal Century timeline. I know that can be a bit confusing these days, since there are so many series and movies in this timeline. Hell, there is a series/movie that even predates the UC timeline, that actually leads into the timeline. Ugh, I think that I confused myself just writing that out. So just focus on Mobile Suit Gundam, Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, and Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ.

The year is UC 0093, Char has returned from his five years in hiding. He is once again in charge of the Neo-Zeon forces going up against the Earth Federation. His plan, the running theme throughout most Gundam series, drop some extremely big and heavy shit onto Earth. The Earth Federation has a special forces unit know as Londo Bell, with two of their members, Noa Bright and Amuro Ray are ready to stop Char. Who wins? Watch the movie and find out.

This movie is great. Coming out in 1988, means that the animation doesn’t hold up to newer animes, but I’m not holding that against it. What do I know about art, the only thing I can barley draw is stick people. The story is really good, and the best part of the movie is that after 14 years(in the storyline), we finally get closure between the two rivals Char Aznable and Amuro Ray. I couldn’t find a streaming service that had this, but you should buy it here, via Amazon. Until next time Painkillers!
