The Round Mound Of Rebound Street Style
Updated: Feb 7, 2020
Good morning my loyal Painkillers, retro gamers, and newbies to the site. Welcome to another edition of Grab A Buddy Monday! If you are a sports fan, then you know that basketball season just started a few weeks ago. Hopefully by the time this article drops, all the China/NBA mess would be resolved. So, what do you get when you take a NBA MVP player, and put him in a fictional NBA Jam style of a game? Well, its time to grab your buddy, hook up your Sega Genesis/Master System, and its time to play Barkley’s Shut Up And Jam!
Released in 1993 for the Genesis/Master system, and then in 1994 for the SNES, this game allows you to play as Sir Charles himself. Unlike most basketball games that were out at the time, this was a two on two street style basketball game. You get to choose between Charles Barkley, and 15 different fictional basketball players. Games are played on outdoor basketball courts in cities across the US, except for the one in Phoenix, which is an indoor court. Guess it was too hot to play a two on two full court game outside in Phoenix.
This game is really fun. It has the similar arcade gameplay style as NBA Jam, but without the special power ups. If you own the four player adapter, you were able to play with three of your friends at the same time. That is if you have that many friends, and I’m sure someone would start a fight over who gets to play as Charles Barkley. If you can’t find the Genesis/Master system version, it also came out for the Super Nintendo, so happy hunting. That’s all for now, until next time everyone!
